Green stuff growing on stem…

Just realized one of the stems of my money tree is looking funny and hasn’t grown leaves since I purchased. The stem looks dried out and is growing green stuff under the outer brown “skin”. Has anyone ever experienced this? #NewPlantMom #MoneyPlant
Hi! Welcome to Greg 🌿 so I'm not entirely sure what green stuff you are describing I think everything looks okay, (except that one stem) but if it's under the brown outer layer, that's the stem of the plant. The brown stuff is the outer part, it can be barky or dry. Money Trees do like a decent amount of lighting, well draining pot and not so moist soil. They are also sometimes sold with a band around the trunk, under the soil line. Sometimes that can create fungus or other issues with the plant, you can clip it off, it was just for forming the braid. I'm not sure whats going on with that onw stem, however it does look like its suffering, is the soil very wet? Hope this helps a bit. 😊
That green stuff is the Cambium layer of your tree, which is under the bark, it's normal. Your main concern should be why is the bark of your tree falling off; that's not normal. You should cut off that string, it could be suffocating your plant.

@PlantBeach hi! It actually did come with a band on the bottom that I did not trim… I will cut it off and keep an eye on it. Thanks for your input :)

@Seedstarter thanks for your input! It actually did not fall off I was the one who peeled it off a bit for the purpose of this post. It might seem tight but really isn’t although removing it and waiting for the braiding stage of this plant will probably be a good idea. Thank you ☺️
@PLOVE Well that's a relief I should also mention that a green Cambium layer is a sign of life, meaning that the tree branch isn't dead despite not having leaves or looking dry.

@Seedstarter thank you! I was hoping it’s not dead. Do you have any tips on making look healthy again?
