Should I let it be, or prune it?
#Coleus Here is my colues, he is an angle king hahaha, anyways lmk :)

@Leoncemalo Hi Leon, You could do either one but I would lean more towards cutting the top off and propagating it, making a whole other plant! Pruning basically tells the plant to direct its energy elsewhere which will cause it to really take off! If you went that route you'll probably need a pot 1"-2" larger than the one it's in to give it room to grow bigger. BTW for a "noob plant dude" your plants are gorgeous! You're a natural! ππ
@GreenPurpose thanks its growing like crazy, also a thirsty fella
@Leoncemalo No, I would just cut the top off. I mean it's really up to you!
@ApRiseandShine can I grow one just inside water, I want to put inside an empty absolute bottleπ
@ApRiseandShine Can you elaborate more in depth?
@Leoncemalo you have a really good potential in making a coleus-tree hereπ Great thing about Coleus you can prune it just the way you want, and anything you cut off have a potential to become a new plant if you put it in a glass of water, or directly in a pot with soil.
Usually you will get a more bushy plant if you keep pinching the tops of every stem. But if you want a tree you remove all offshots until you reach the hight you want of your stem, and then you pinch the topπ

@MockingJay Your tree looks lovely, but Im more on team shrub hahahaha
@Leoncemalo they change their colors depending on how much light they get. Usually they go darker with more light and more green with less.
But the white patches you got in the pink looks papery, so I think that is from sunburn. They can burn quite easily, especially the pink color, and needs to get adjusted to more light just a little at a time.

@MockingJay welp it is summer afterall hahaah
Hi Leon, sorry for the late reply, Iβve never tried growing a coleus fully in water except when I overwinter them or early spring before repotting in soil, they usually grow very slowly under these conditions but might be worth a try during summer with ideal conditions. If you do want to try, Iβd add charcoal at the bottom of recipient (to prevent rot) or look into semi-hydro growing (not familiar with it). Mines usually thrive outside with well-draining soil, high humidity and very bright indirect sunlight.
I solely use water as a healthy transition for cuttings to grow strong roots and would repot as soon as I see them with some rooting hormone and fresh soil π

I also saw a coleus that was pruned all the way up the central stalk for a couple years and turns into a coleus tree.
