they need aeration and drainage, planted in peat moss which holds in moisture in a pot with no drainage is what would be the problem i’d say. i suggest taking it out, washing the roots under the tap and inspecting them, cut away any mushy, brown or black roots, cut out the dead stems once they turn yellow/brown and soft they can’t be saved unfortunately. and then repot into a potting mix + course sand + perlite or pumice mix into a pot with drainage, hope all goes well for him!
