Looks like they are planted in two rows, and sometimes the trees just end up competing with each other. Their roots overlap and they’re all pulling from the same water and nutrients, and the branches block light and air in the middle. After a while that stress shows up as browning or dieback in certain spots. It’s a good chance it’s just the trees fighting each other for space. Giving them a bit more space or improving airflow can really help keep the rest of the hedge healthy.
