What is happening???

My dragon tail was growing beautifully until I clipped her for a friend, and now I have this leggy middle finger, I guess I deserve it quite frankly. But, how do I support her with this thing? Why is it just stem growth and no leaves? She hasn't moved except rotationally since I brought her home, but with this I kept her in place. #help #plantsmakepeoplehappy #greggang

It's definitely not because you trimmed it, so don't worry about that πŸ˜› It's probably just a coincidence that the plant sent out this leafless runner shortly after you took a cutting. Usually this happens due to insufficient light, which makes sense if it's 6 feet from the nearest window. Move to a spot no more than 3 feet from the window for optimal light. Then you can just cut off that leafless stem back to a node. Once it's getting proper light, it will start sending out normal growth (i.e. leaves πŸ˜‰).

Also, just to reiterate that trimming off a piece didn't cause this to happen...pruning doesn't harm the plant, it actually stimulates new growth and makes the plant more full and bushy (as opposed to just a few straggly long vines). Another good way to encourage healthy growth on a pothos is to take a vine, coil it around itself, and pin it down onto the soil. You want the nodes to be in direct contact with the soil so they'll put down roots. The more rooted points a pothos has, the healthier and more robust its growth will be (and in my experience, it also helps produce bigger leaves!)
@HipLoquat11 I second Steph’s @stephongreg assessment that you did nothing wrong πŸ‘πŸ»

I have my Decursiva climbing a trellis right in front of a west window and it sill does this.

I think part of it is that these just love to CLIMB! 🌱
