Soft trunk :(

#MoneyTree Help! One trunk just went soft and isn’t looking great. Any recommendations or ways to fix it? / if I need to remove it what would be the best way to do so without damaging the rest of the plant? Thanks!!
3ft to light, indirect
5” pot with drainage
Last watered 4 years ago

I repotted mine using a cardboard box/tray to lean her against. There may be a tight band holding the trunks together that is suffocating her. And the soil may be staying too wet. I removed all the soil I could, cut the band around the trunks, and placed in new well draining soil. Then waited a week before adding any water to let any damage to the trunk/roots heal. If that trunk is too far gone, you can remove it at this point and try to propagate the stems. Also, replace the green tie on top with twine.
That can be taken in so many ways haha. I want to say too much water.
It will survive with above suggestions definitely let it dry and heal then perhaps misting will ease the water stress. And sunshine will do the rest. Whatever you do, don't give up!
That trunk is dead but pretty easy to remove once you take it out of the soil. There 95% is a rubber band around the trunks, remove that and then unwind the green tie. The dead trunk will be very easy to maneuver out of there at this point. I did exactly this a month ago and my money tree is thriving. Do that and what @hypsie said and your tree will be gold!! (Or should I say money!!! πŸ€‘)
Money trees store water in their trunks are super prone to overwatering and root rot. The soil these come with are oftentimes very compact. The soil is most likely staying wet for too long. Once you repot with fresh, well draining soil let it dry out completely before watering again and stick with that routine. Good luck! πŸ€ 😊
@Hypsie @babyfiretiger13 @GreenGiant Thanks so much!!! I’ll try that!
