Does anyone know what to do against #mold??
I was cleaning up my room and finally giving my plants water and I just found this on my #rescue #orchid! Does anyone know what to do? I don't wanna get her out of the pot if I don't have to, babygirl already went through so much and she's beginning to grow either a flower or a spike and I don't wanna shock her into dying but I also wanna get rid of the mold
2ft to light, direct
2β pot with drainage
Last watered 11 months ago
@whatamidoing Hi Simone, what you can consider is eg using diluted hydrogen peroxide to kill off the mold on the pot (about 1 part to 4 parts water) and that should do the trick.
Most visible molds and fungi don't harm an already established plant; they are just along for the nutrients ride. Some even form symbiotic relationships with plants and their roots. However, they are a sign that you might be overwatering or that there is not a lot of air circulation, which could invite harmful pathogens that can cause rot.

Hi, tysm for the reply! I was thinking of that as well but I'm not really sure where to get hydrogen peroxide + if I wanna take my chances with a diluted chemical. Do you maybe know of any other things I could do?

That's kimda cool honestly, didn't know that before, ty! And that's actually the strange thing, I've not watered that often, about once a week - two weeks so far and occasionally sprayed down the roots. I even made sure to leave gaps without any soil in the pot and kept her out of a decorative pot just to make sure there'd be airflow. I'm definitely gonna keep a closer eye on it tho

@whatamidoing Hey Simone, you can often get hydrogen peroxide at a chemist (eg 3%) or even sometimes hair supply places or trade centers. The beauty of Hydorgen Peroxide is it converts to water and oxygen (itβs just H2O2) however you could look at another natural fungicide like diluted neem oil or even cinnamon (which is often used on roots). But it is difficult to treat without removing it from the pot unless you plan to inject it through a drain hole or some kind of bath?Mold tend to require moisture and warmth. The roots look really healthy and green so I guess one option is to let the lower part of the pot sit in a solution which will kill of the mold for eg 20 mins to kill of the mold issue? And check it again to see if itβs done the job.
@whatamidoing Looking at options and I often like what Miss Orchid Girl says so hereβs a video you may find relevant and useful as well !
