Philodendron Gabby? πͺ΄
Is anyone familiar with this philodendron? I stumbled accross it accidentally social media and then had to google it. It beautiful but holy cow the prices people want for it are out of my price range to say the least! $50 for a cutting, $70 -$250 for a live plant! πͺ΄ still quite a beautiful specimen. I will wait till itβs available locally for cheap. π€ #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #donttellmyhusbandyoucanmailorderplants #theamigos #Philodendron #gabby #PhilodendronGabby
@danisgreenhouse that was my thought too. My philodendron Brasil cuttings were slow to get started but now are exploding with new leaves. With literally no effort.
@PoisedAlbo oh wow! I had no idea. That is cool that they made this plant. I definitely will look into that. Thank you!
@PoisedAlbo is the cream splash actually the same cultivar? Or are people@just calling that mistakenly?
@PoisedAlbo nevermind I answered my own question! π the Gabriella website explains the cream splash! A mislabeled gabby with slightly mutated variegation.

βThis oddball cultivar of the Brasil Philodendron originated at Gabriella Plants and has been propagated in our greenhouse for over a decade. It's very unpredictable and features white and a cream color. This plant has also been called "Cream Splash" in the past by other retail shops that received this from our greenhouse via wholesale assorted cases as early as 2011, arriving without a name.
It enjoys shade and hates full sun and will be a fun one to watch. Please note that because of it's tendency to produce high levels of white variegation, it's not uncommon for the all white leaves to wither and die after a longer period of time. Each plant will be different but roughly the same size and variegation amount as the one shown in the photos. β
Iβd be very careful looking to buy one to ensure itβs the genuine article. See the comments here:

@Seymour thank you for that info, I love the diagram with all the different variations. I donβt think I will seek out a gabby, considering the current price tag! π
I do think they are beautiful, but also I think I will stay away from super highly variegated plants for the reason mentioned above, the short life span of the all white leaves. π
