Spider mites or mould mites

Hi guys,

I noticed yesterday a lot of white specks, looking a dust moving around on my white fusion I have a slight problem with mould mites recently and have been using dehumidifier to get rid of them, some of my plants definetelt got mould mites on them, but with this one I am not sure, there are lot of them, so tiny that it is hard to take a picture. Does anyone know how to differ mould mites from spider mites ? I don’t want to put harsh chemicals on them if there are not harmful. There is none of webbing

I suspect it’s mold mites because your plant is gorgeous and looks very healthy! πŸͺ΄With so many mites clustered around that you can actually see them your plant would be VERY unhappy.
If there are no webs or plant damage then it will be mold mites.
@SuperbRaspfern there is no damage so far, but I freaked out that maybe it is an early stage though. I just find it weird that there are so many all over the plant, on the top and underneath of leaves, is it normal for spider mites? Do you know any difference in appearance or perhaps their speed to different them from each other ?
@SuperbRaspfern yeah it seems to be growing a lot, there are some yellow bottom leaves as it normally have some producing new growth, but looking at photos online, I cannot see and bleached leaves and webs
They kind of look the same just teeny tiny dots. Take a piece of white paper and knock some off on it. Then squish some. Plant eating spider mites will leave a green residue when squished. Usually
@SuperbRaspfern okay thank you, I will give it a go later on
Also, if you can afford it I have as a precaution in my house predatory mites in my house. They feed on spider mites and mold mites. One predatory mite will eat 500 spider and or mold mites. They come in little bags that you can hang around your house. If you can afford them they would be VERY worth it in your situation. Once the food source runs out, by the way they will feed on fungus and mold as well, they will die off. Sound crazy but you never know they are there.
@aprel_studio your welcome, sorry about all the bad mites, that really sucks 😞
@SuperbRaspfern thank you, hope that they are only mould mites, but still I would rather have not have them there 🫣
@SuperbRaspfern oo that sounds interest, what are they called?
I’ve bought them through both Natural Enemies and Arbico. I always get Neoseiulus californicus since I live in CA and they don’t need super high humidity to live. So they will outlive other species of predatory mites. I also had to make sure they wouldn’t be allergenic (like lady bugs)🐞 , there was no way I could introduce those! Although they are great at eating mites. Because, there are 3 people in my home with allergies and asthma.

But for people without allergies you could always get the variety of different kinds. I highly recommend them though because they effortlessly do the job for you. Then you don’t have to deal with pesticides, (which don’t work on spider mites anyway). They have developed a resistance to them 😞.

But since you have mold mites they really would do wonders for you and you would have a very happy colony of predatory mites that could reach all the nooks and crannies of your home and eat all your food. ( I’ve heard mold mites wreck havoc in a kitchen! )

You could always message them and ask for their recommendations, both companies are really good at recommending the best predators for your specific situation.

Anyway, I hope you win the battle soon! πŸ’•
I just looked for fun. It looks like there are even more predatory mite sellers in England as well, more than us here in the US!
@SuperbRaspfern thank you so much, I will look into this ☺️
