Not a good idea. They do best without pruning. I can’t convince my dad to stop cutting all his plants back in the fall. Then he wonders why they never flower in the summer. Let the plant grow and cut off dead wood and spent blooms only.
@GentleSaguaro I’ve tried cutting the dead flowers and dead wood and there still not blooming and if I do get a flower or 2 there hidden under the leaves . A friend has one and she said she cuts the whole plant down in the fall and it does flower following year. If the plant didn’t have sentimental memories I would give up and fight it up.
@FamousMangeao that was dig it up!
@FamousMangeao I planted mine on the north side of the house they’re not blooming as well as they did the first year. I’m thinking about moving them there very full. οΏΌ
I wouldn’t cut it down to the ground. I prune mine (right above the bud) in early Spring every year. I also fertilize mine at least once a month during the growing season. Hydrangea typically are heavy feeders, so I recommend a 10-10-10 fertilizer (at least once a month, maybe even every 3 weeks) during their growing season. Happy gardening. πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ πŸƒπŸŒΈ
@FamousMangeao maybe she’s just not in a happy spot? Mine are on the east and north side of my house and they are doing fantastic with the blooms.
