Bugs on parsley

Hi all! I’m taking care of a parsley plant for my mom right now and it seems to have a bug problem. I asked her about it and she says she usually just gives the plant a shower to wash them off but I’m not sure that’s really doing the job. Any ideas? I do have a cat and while she can’t get to this plant a remedy that isn’t super toxic would be ideal. Thanks! #help #Parsley
These look like #spidermites 😬

They’re very challenging to get rid of. And worse, they have the ability to glide on the air and infect other nearby plants. Plants with thin cuticles/skin that are easy for the mites to bite through are especially susceptible.

To be honest, it’s usually best to just get rid of a plant infected with spider mites and start fresh. At minimum definitely quarantine it from other plants.

Rinsing it with water isn’t enough. They have tiny eggs that will make it through the rinse and restart the cycle.
#NeemOil can help as a natural pesticide. But you have to be sure you get all of the eggs and it’s so hard that it’s usually a losing battle.

@alex yikes! Thanks for the heads up! She is quarantined and I will try NeemOil for now, but I might be buying my mom a new parsley plant lol 😅
@alex @MiracleYuzu I think these are actually #aphids which is great news! They’re much easier to take care of. You can tell because they leave little white jackets around, those are their shells from when they molt.

The best way to take care of aphids is to turn the plant sideways and blast them off with water. Putting your finger over the hose to increase the pressure or using the stream setting on a spray bottle usually does the trick. The reason for turning the plant on its side is so when they fall off, they don’t fall into the soil and climb right back up.

If you do that regularly (every few days) for a week or so, it should take care of the issue! I get these guys on my kale plants all. the. time.
