Prune help

#MoneyTree Hi all, first time posting. My money tree has new shots both top and on the trunks but the older leaves are going yellow and not so good and have taken some off. How should I prune it to help? Do I remove those new shots off the trunks to assist the top growth? should I trim the lanky offshoots at the top - help? Also one of the trunks looks dead, nothing coming off it so assume I remove as well? Apologies for all the questions but don't know what to do for the best as only money tree I've had. Thank you.

Hey, Karen! I'm glad you're posting! To channel the plant's energy to the top growth, you'd remove the bottom growth. (Although I'd KILL for my plant to put off more growth near the bottom.)

You can also trim off the shoots from the top to force the growth down. Pruning allows you to have a bushier plant.

I don't see a dead stem (I could be missing it) but they all look nice and green.

For the most part: Green is good. Brown is bad.

If you want the money tree to have a nice canopy, I would trim the plant stems back around the red line. That way, when new growth emerges, the leaves will still grow in the general area. (:

Never apologize for asking questions! That's why the #GregTeam created the community!! ๐Ÿ˜
@sarahsalith Thank you so much for your kind response. One stem is brown all the way through, nothing coming off it but not sure how I would even remove it without cutting it bit by bit? And do I just cut straight across on the plant like you showed in your pic - no particularly best part - just nervous as that's where all the new shots are.
Take a sharp knife or tough fingernail and scrap the brown stem. Take a peek under the outter layer and see if it's green or brown.

Over time, the Money Tree's stems turn brown on the outside as they harden and mature. You don't want to cut it off if it still has a chance to grow.

Cutting back the new shoots will force the plant to grow elsewhere. That'll help your plant to be bushier over time.

If the brown stem is indeed brown inside too, is it visible from the base on the outside? You can always cut it at the base of the plant and you can just pull it away carefully.
@sarahsalith thank you again for all your help, much appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š
You're so welcome, Karen!
