Rotted Cactus Base

Is there any hope for this Silver Torch (Cleistocact Stausii)? Unfortunately is was potted up a couple inches into the healthy part of the cactus and looked fine when purchasing.

It’s rootball is about the fourth of the size of its previous pot buddy.

Ok you can try chop and prop. But the rot may be "hiding" in some of the healthy looking tissue. Cut it off with a sterile knife well above any rot. Let it scab over. Place is fresh soil and don't water for quite a while. If it's not a goner it may send out roots.
@QualifiedWoreya definitely worth a try! Thanks!
@QualifiedWoreya how does this look to you?
That's looking good and healthy. Maybe wait a little longer to see if the scab will thicken a little more. Otherwise seems promising!
@QualifiedWoreya awesome! I will wait and read up on it. Thanks for taking a peek
@beeps I really hope it works! Bottom rot / bottom stem death in cacti is so hard to treat. I've had success with it, but sometimes it doesn't work. I think the key is using sterile cactus soil and really limiting water even after root reestablishment.
