Is my plant dead?
7β pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
@MamaLinne itβs an office plant Iβve moved it around since Iβm Texas the direct sun can get a little hot. I repotted it last week to a larger vase with drainage and changed the soil. I may have left it by the window a little to long during the summer before it had a bulb like it was going to bloom now itβs brown π₯Ί
@MamaLinne also when I repotted it I found the soil was way over watered so I havenβt watered it since I repotted it
@MamaLinne southwest
Iβm going to bring in @DreamMachine - sheβs my go to for all plant questions and she is probably sick of it lol! π₯°π
@MamaLinne Iβm sure my plants are about sick of me π
@GoldenTyrimnus8 itβs definitely a learning curve! I started having more fun with them when I gave myself permission to experiment and fail. Iβve lost plants, but have learned so much from those experiences that my others are thriving. Iβve also learned which plants bring me joy and which bring me stress! Give yourself some grace! π
@MamaLinne Lol, not at all my dear! I love answering planty questions π
@GoldenTyrimnus8 how long have you had this plant? And how long if you know, has it been in flower? Bromeliads are βmonocarpicβ plants, which means the mother plant will flower only once and then begin to die. But this is a part of their natural cycle. Keep your eyes out for babies/pups now! Her babies will grow and get bigger and then you will have new bromeliads to care for. The mother plant will slowly die, so dont remove the pups too soon. Once they get to be about half the height of the mother plant you can separate. If the mother plant flower completely browns up you can trim just that part, the old flower, off, if you donβt like the look of it. πΏπ©Ά

@DreamMachine I got her the end of August. It looked like it was going to bloom up to a few weeks ago maybe a month but it never did π₯Ί now itβs this. I zoomed in on some areas are these her babies?
@GoldenTyrimnus8 Yes they are pups, yay! Well you at least got some colorful bracts. Iβm guessing she might have gotten too hot π€·πΌββοΈ If it has enough light it can go through the water. What does overwaterer mean to you? Because to me itβs when a plant is sitting in a puddle, and then you water it again.
And like Deb said @MamaLinne give yourself grace βΊοΈ Iβve killed way more plants than you probably have ever had. Just donβt give up! If you kill something, try again until you figure it out! Iβve killed every string of pearls Iβve ever had, and Iβm about to go for try #3 or #4 π

@DreamMachine when I pulled it out to repot it the soil was drenched and there was definitely a pool of water. I havenβt watered it since. This was Christmas Eve.
@GoldenTyrimnus8 Whoops! π€·πΌββοΈ hmm, what kind of soil is it in? Did you repot it and water it? Or did you repot into dry soil and not water it? Is the soil dry or wet right now?
@DreamMachine this is the soil I used. I repotted them and watered. The top of the soil now is dry but when I push down it seems springy. Last week I also noticed a bunch of gnats around them so I cleaned the soil put new one cleaned the plants with a paper towel and water. Gnats are gone but now they seem droopy and the leaves are curled up on the one pictured above
@GoldenTyrimnus8 they like bright direct light from what Greg has told me! And itβs normal for their flowers to die of and regrow
