It’s best to prune in late spring immediately after the flowers have bloomed. Forsythia will bloom next year on ‘old wood,’ so I try not to remove more than 1/3 of the old growth.

I followed this gardener lady’s forsythia pruning advice for mine, let me see if I can find her video.
