Flying bugs

I’m new to plant care and today I noticed some small flying bugs around the plant, and upon inspecting the soil, I discovered even more bugs in the potting mix.

Could someone please advise me on how to deal with these bugs and protect my plant? I want to make sure I handle this properly and avoid harming the plant ):
7ft to light, indirect
9” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 weeks ago
@GoldenTearose31 Probably fungus gnats. It sounds like it's laid eggs. Change the soil to something well draining like a succulent soil mixed with perlite. 2:1 ratio then don't water the plant until the top couple of inches of soil is dry. Also, 7 ft away from a light source is way too far. Since it's in a North facing window don't put it any farther than 3 ft away.
@princesspitstop thank you so much!!!!
@GoldenTearose31 you're so welcome! Welcome to Greg! ☺️ Let me know if you need anything else. You got this!! πŸ’šπŸ«Ά
I would also recommend Mosquito Bits (can be purchased at Home Depot or Ama . They are a beneficial bacterial granule that you use when you water. This will kill any fungus gnat larvae in the soil. Yellow sticky traps for your plants will catch any adults until the mosquito bits break the life cycle. This usually takes about three weeks or three treatment treatments. With mosquito bits, I usually make a tea, using 1 tablespoon to 4 cups of water. I let them soak for about 20 to 30 minutes then strain the water. Use this water every time you water. Hope this also helps!
@GoldenTearose31 I use the sticky traps and it’s worked really well for me πŸ™Œ.
I remember these buggies. They are so annoying. I Evo and I let my plants dry out and started to bottom feed majority of my plants. And that helped a whole lot.
