Couple of things: the soil looks pretty dry, and carnivorous plants like to stay swampy. The terracotta wicks moisture away from the plant. So I would change pots sure. How often do you water? Do you use distilled/filtered water?
Agreed I used bog blend nutrient dense soil in a plastic pot and keep it swampy. Mine seem to be doing ok too only lost one plant hopefully it’s in hibernation but the rest are just fine.
I let my VFT sit in about half to one inch of distilled or rain water pretty much at all times. They originate from the Carolina bogs, so they love sun and to have their roots wet, but not the rhizome. To answer your question though, you can cut off the black traps if ya want. I do, and it makes the plant look better in my opinion, and they aren't using the dead traps anymore anyways. 😊
