Hi Adrienne!
Ming aralia . pruning is best done in early spring or late winter, just as the plant begins its new growth cycle. Pruning encourages bushier growth, and you can shape the plant by trimming above nodes or removing yellowing leaves to prevent disease. Avoid removing more than a quarter of the foliage at a time. I hope this helps. Iโ€™ll post how to in the next post in a minute
As per google:::: How to Prune:
Trim above nodes:
Cut just above a leaf node (the point where a leaf or branch emerges) to encourage new growth from that point.
Encourage outward growth:
When pruning, consider cutting above a node that points outward to promote a more balanced, outward-spreading shape.
Remove yellowing or diseased leaves:
This helps prevent the spread of disease and keeps the plant healthy.
Don't over-prune:
Avoid removing more than a quarter of the foliage at once to prevent shocking the plant.
Specific Pruning Scenarios:
For bushier growth: Prune the growing tips to encourage branching and a denser appearance.
To control height: Regularly trim the top of the plant to keep it at a desired height, which will also encourage more branching below.
To manage size: For larger pruning, consider doing it in winter. If only minor shaping is needed, it can be done in summer or autumn.
Additional Tips:
Use sharp, clean pruning tools: This helps prevent damage to the plant and reduces the risk of disease.
Consider the plant's overall health: Avoid pruning if the plant is already stressed or weakened.
Be mindful of new growth: When pruning, look for new growth points and try to prune in a way that will encourage the growth you want.
