I decided to try again!
I want to make sure this baby thrives, I have tried the toothpicks and water and had no success, but I got this one to crack in a closed tupperware with wet paper towel! I assume that I need to wait for little roots to sprout before transferring to a pot with soil, so should I keep it in the tupperware with water?
Yes, you’re on the right track!
Once your avocado seed has cracked open, you should wait until a healthy taproot (2–4 inches long) has developed before transferring it to soil. Here’s what to do next:
Keep it in the Tupperware setup until:
• A taproot is clearly growing out the bottom.
• A sprout starts forming from the top (optional but ideal).
• The root is white and healthy—not mushy or dark.
Then transfer to soil:
• Use a well-draining pot (a pot without drainage is risky long-term).
• Plant the seed root-down, with the top half sticking out of the soil.
• Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
• Place in bright, indirect sunlight.
You’re past the hardest part—now it’s just patience and consistent care!
