Browning, crispy leafs.

My Winston was so happy and healthy and then one day started declining. Droopy browning leafs, holes on the leafs etc
7” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 days ago
Can you give some info on your watering routine? This is a pretty dramatic decline with lots of dry crispy leaves, which makes me think underwatering is a possibility. Terracotta pots dry out the soil much faster, so a plant receiving direct sunlight will be drying out fairly quickly and require more frequent waterings.
@stephonicle I usually do around a cup twice a week
@stephonicle this was in march. It had gorgeous blooms and was so green
Do you check the soil for dryness/moisture prior to watering?
@stephonicle it’s usually pretty dry. I have to switch out the pot because it has grown quite a bit
@Abicadabi3 I think the issue is most likely that the soil has stayed consistently dried out, which will cause the soil to become hydrophobic. Once that happens, even frequent waterings will lead to an underwatered plant because the soil can no longer retain water. Before moving to a bigger pot, first I'd prune off all the dead and dried up leaves and see how much plant you're left with. I would, however, suggest a new pot *type*. Rather than terracotta, a standard plastic nursery pot might be a better choice. They don't cause the soil to dry out quite as fast, but you still have the benefit of excellent drainage because nursery pots have TONS of drainage holes. It will provide a much better balance with the direct sunlight it gets πŸ€“
@stephonicle I think you’re definitely right about the soil! Im a newer plant owner so I’m not sure when and how often I have to replace the soil. I just bought new soil and new pots so fingers crossed my baby perks back up
