@slothz | thank you for adding the extra pictures! The leaves actually very happy. The smaller leaves are just older and probably dying off. The plant is putting more energy into making new leaves. This specific calathea moves its leaves a LOT throughout the day.
Emma, we need to figure out what is going on with Delilah! Several questions I have for you: is she in a cold spot in your home? Cold air can cause their leaves to droop. Have you noticed a sign of any pests?
@theloveofplants hi so I got Delilah 4 days ago on Tuesday from home Depot. She is currently in my bathroom where there is No cold air or cold drafts. The vent in my bathroom is rarely ever on compared to in my bedroom where I have my fan going most of the time.
I have not noticed any signs of pests.
This is my first calathea, in fact, I've only recently in the past week gotten into plants.
She looks super happy one minute and then sad 😞 I'll input some more pictures
Some pics of her rn
Okay, glad to hear you have the plant in your bathroom for humidity-calathea’s really like to be warm temperatures and humid environments!
Usually in the morning the leaves are β€œdrooping,” or pointing downward, then by the end of the day, the leaves are perky again. Is that what you are experiencing?
Yup! That's exactly what she's doing it seems like🀣makes sense thank you so much πŸ’—
@slothz | okay, glad we got that cleared up. πŸ€— Here is a picture of my coworkers calathea. The leaves were all the way pointed down this morning, then by the end of the day, they should all be up ⬆️
This is Right now….I will send another picture before I leave work.
…and several hours later…
I need to try to remember to get you another picture first thing in the morning. ☺️
@theloveofplants thank you πŸ’— glad to know it's normal calathea shenanigans 🀣
@slothz - πŸ˜† yes, totally normal calathea shenanigans! I am happy to help!
@theloveofplants well lookie 🀣 6:30pm and she decided to wake up
@slothz | πŸ˜† haha that is amazing! Isn’t that so cool how she does that!?
Yep it's totally normal for Calatheas to move like that! Their nickname is "Prayer Plant" because of this. Your plant looks very healthy! 😁
This is one of the perks that makes calatheas so fun!😊 Here is my Makoyana, pics taken only a few hours apartπŸͺ΄
First picture - 8:00 a.m. this morning. Second picture - 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. @JesssJungle I love that their nickname is Prayer Plant - suits the daily β€œmovement” so well! @MockingJay Your plant is beautiful too! I just love the colors of these plants! πŸͺ΄
@theloveofplants Hi Rachael!
I repotted my Calathea in more appropriate substrate with higher nutrients, and her leaves are laying flat despite it being at night time. The leaves usually perks up and stands tall at night, but she's not very perky right now, is that possibly just due to the stress of the substrate change?
@slothz - Hi Emma! Thank you for reaching back out to me in regards to Delilah. When plants are first repotted, some go into a bit of β€œshock” for some time. I think that was a great idea to repot her in a better substrate. Greg has taught me A LOT about the importance of using better soil for my plants! πŸͺ΄ Look at us go! πŸ€— How long ago did you repot Delilah? Also, did you change the pot size at all? And did you change anything else with the plants environment?
@theloveofplants thanks!
And I repotted her around 4 ish days ago and I didn't change location or pot size πŸ’—
@slothz - Oh good, I am glad to hear you did not change the pot size or the location. The plant will probably just take a few more days to adjust to the new soil. Especially when their roots are touched. Keep me posted and touch base with me this weekend either way.
@theloveofplants tysm for the support πŸ’—πŸ’—
@slothz
You are quite welcome! πŸ€—
I am here if you have any questions! πŸ’œ
@slothz unless she’s fine that’s a trait of these plants. They’re part of a prayer plant family and the leaves go up and down. She’s a beautyπŸͺ΄β€οΈ
