Potted indoor Erect Sword Ferns (often Boston ferns) thrive in bright, indirect light, high humidity (50–70%), and consistently moistβ€”but not soggyβ€”soil. They need regular watering, typically twice a week, and should be placed away from direct heat sources like heaters. Keep them in a well-draining, organic-rich potting mix. Light: Place in bright, indirect light (4–6 hours). Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the fronds, particularly in the afternoon.
Watering: Water consistently to keep the soil slightly moist. Generally, they need water twice a week. If the soil feels dry to the touch, they need water. In a 5" pot, this often means ~0.8 cups every 7 days. Humidity & Temp: High humidity is crucial. Maintain 50–70% humidity using a 4 humidifier, pebble tray, or by misting frequently. They thrive in temperatures between 65 & 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Fertilizing: Feed every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20).
Maintenance: Remove brown or dead fronds to encourage new growth. Repot when the roots fill the pot, usually once a year.
Soil & Potting: Use a light, peat-based, well-draining potting mix.
