How do I save my Lucky Bamboo??

I’ve had this lucky bamboo for about 5 years with no issues up until now. In the last month I noticed a ton of his stem started to turn yellow and when I investigated the roots, he had very bad root rot. I went through and removed the rotted roots but kept all of the healthy ones. Additionally I read online that once the stem turns yellow there’s no coming back and so I trimmed all the yellow off so it could use the energy to heal the roots and grow new leaves. This is him a few weeks after tho interventions.

What can I do to make sure he doesn’t die?!?!

I keep him in partial shade fairly close to the window
I water him whenever his water runs low
I try to ensure I clean his stones and container once a month to get rid of build up and algae as he is in water and rocks full time.

Hi there, sorry to hear your plant baby isn’t doing too well. Here are a few suggestions to help get it back on track. Firstly, any time I get a plant with root rot, I cut off the rotten parts with sterilised snips and leave the plant to soak in hydrogen peroxide and water overnight (ratio 1/4 cup HP to 1 cup water). With all my plants growing hydroponically, I have learned that they really need the water fully changed (not just topped up) at least weekly. This ensures there are adequate oxygen molecules available to the roots. Dracaenas like your plant are also sensitive to lime in water so if you have a mineral rich tap water (PH greater than 7), your plant will be happier being watered with distilled or rain water. Also for plants growing completely hydroponically, you may consider getting a hydroponic fertiliser as well. These are non organic (because organic fertilisers do not have nutrients that are bioavailable to the plant’s roots without soil microbes doing the work to make them bioavailable). This will ensure your plant is also getting nutrients as there’s none when the plant is grown in water. And finally light: I have my lucky bamboo under a grow light for 12 hours a day so if your baby isn’t near a window where it can see a good chunk of sky all day, it might be helpful to consider supplementing light via a grow light. Hope that helps! 🌿🌿🌿
