Welcome to Greg! This isn't a Chinese evergreen or as @KikiGoldblatt suggested a palm-lily but I think it's an Apoballis acuminatissima.
As for why it's going brown, these guys love a lot of humidity. How's the humidity in your place?

@RJG oh gosh I am not doing anything for humidity. I came by this plant unexpectedly
