What to do with this stretch of empty vine? 🤔

I have a probably-pothos of unknown parentage that was gifted to me as my first houseplant. It's done quite well over the last couple years and has reached an impressive length... But of course, it's dropped some leaves here and there as it matured.

So now I have a couple feet of empty vine that starts at the pot. It has a ton of nodes, which makes me wonder if I could encourage that section to root and possibly put up new leaves or another vine? I'm considering something akin to air layering - wrapping the nodes in moistened sphagnum moss or the like, but without cutting the stem since I wouldn't want to sever the big main vine.

Has anyone done something similar? Are there other techniques I should consider? Or should I just leave well enough alone, keep tucking the bare vine into a corner, and try not to let it bother me as I enjoy the rest of the plant? 😂

I ended up cutting mine up 🥲 25ft of leafless vine. I’m curious if there is a solution, your idea with the moss sounds brilliant to me!
Air layering with moss is such a cool idea and I think it's worth experimenting with, the only thing I'd worry about is rotting the stem but I don't actually know how likely that is
I've seen some people lightly score nodes (damage can sometimes trigger new growth) and I've also seen Keiki paste used!
You can chop the vine into 2 node cuttings and pop them in water to repot into the plant to make it bushier 😊
I cut up a golden pothos my friend gave up on that was two empty vines with no leaves. I took them and cut-them into lots of single nodes and made up a prop box and played them all in there. It has been a bout three weeks and there are lots of node’s growing roots and leaves sprouting. Someone on the site shared with me about shows on making a prop box on YouTube and I’m so glad I did it. They are responding well. They were in water about a month and nothing was happening except they were turning yellow. Now I have
@SportyWhiskfern lots of babies to plant real soon. Give it a shot , it’s fun. ❤️🥰🌱 good luck!
@SportyWhiskfern I like using the perlite over the moss. I tried one of each and I like the perlite best. 🥰❤️🌱
@Lehhliee 25 feet!! 😱😭 I get it, I would have chopped it up too, lol.
@ittle.squid Thanks! That's a good point about rotting the stem, I'll have to keep an eye on that. Hopefully the moss will be airy enough to keep that from happening... 🤔

And thanks for the tip about scoring the nodes! I'd be trying this on some of the oldest/gnarliest nodes it has, so I bet that will help. Or at least it's unlikely to hurt...

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go google what keiki paste is 😂
@Peachyhoyas I've thought about it, but that would mean sacrificing the whole vine - the bare spot starts at the dirt, lol. But still, it's an excellent and wholly viable Plan B if I don't end up pulling off this caper 😁
@SportyWhiskfern Oooo, that does sound like fun! I might have to try that with a philodendron mic and I've been trying to bring back from the brink. Poor little thing's turned into three sticks in a jar of water and lecca, with one sad little leaf that is trying so hard to stay even the slightest bit green 🥹 Sounds like a prop box might be just what he needs.
I wonder if you might be able to get some of those nodes back into the pot (without cutting the vine, of course) by un attaching them from the wall clips and/ or moving the pot closer to those parts of the vine, and then spiraling those leafless nodes in the pot and using hairpins to keep the nodes in the soil. 🤔
@SunnyPlants Ooo, that's an intriguing idea too. At the very least, it would help hide the gnarly naked vine 😂 Maybe I'll try both and see what happens, lol.
@ShipofRockets Lots of options! I just did this with one of mine that hangs down. It had about 4 nodes and leaves that went yellow and I removed. It was bugging me seeing that empty part and I remembered that my neighbor, who gave me the plant told me that she would just swirl it around in the pot. (She didn’t like the dangling look.) Her plant was like the fullest pothos I’ve ever seen! So, I did this with mine and attached with hairpins that I stretched out to not damage the vine and am awaiting results. 🤞🏽🤞🏽 Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes. If I notice new growth on mine, I’ll try to post too. GL!
