For your Meyer lemon tree, it's best to use a fertilizer high in phosphorus during the blooming and fruiting stages, typically in late spring and early summer. Nitrogen-rich fertilizers are ideal during the growing season, starting in early spring through summer, as they promote healthy leaf and stem growth. As for transplanting, it’s usually better to do it in early spring before the active growing season begins, as this minimizes stress and gives the tree time to establish in its new location before producing fruit.
@Gustavo thanks!! So then do not give fertilizer in fall/ winter months? Just early spring for phosphorus and nitrogen for summer growth?
@ReallyKawakawa Some may disagree but I would actually say to just *diminish* the fertilizing in those months. Cut back considerably. It’s what I usually do. But there’s no reason to not cut back completely too.
I fertilize my orange tree twice a year. Spring and fall. This is what I use. I have only had her a few years and she is huge already!!
Thank you! I’m trying to figure out this little tree. I received it in February 2023. it had plenty of buds on it, which opened under grow lights, and I pollinated them with a little brush. Soon the little lemon started to grow within a couple of weeks. The leaves started to fall off, and the baby lemons started to fall off. Soon I had a stick tree , and not knowing what to do I put it outside on my balcony in the sunshine. Now it’s flourishing lots and lots of green leaves and growth. So at this point, I’m just trying to figure out what I’ll do once fall comes. I’ll have to bring it inside under grow lights again . I don’t wanna run into the same problem as I did last spring with everything dying on it. I thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge. on it.
