Air plant care?

I recently got an air plant and despite my desperate struggle to keep it alive, it died. Does anyone have any tips on keeping them lush and green? Some people have said there are different varieties or air plants and that some are easier to care for than others..? Any tips? Watering? Sun light? Thank you!!!
Airplants are probably my favorite! When you first get them, I recommend soaking them in a tub of water for 30-45 minutes. I think that other people sometimes do even longer soaking periods. From then on, you can spray them with a mister or continue soaking them, but for shorter periods of time. Personally, I’ve found that soaking them every once in a while works very well, but they mostly get misted. Airplants like bright indirect light. Like most plants, direct light can cause the leaves to become sunburn, so stay away from south facing windows as much as possible. If you’re using a grow light, about 12 hours works best for me. As you probably already know, the plants don’t require soil so they can be great for wall mounted pieces. Hope this helps!
I forgot to mention a few things. I water mine about once a week. I also have found that The silvery, fuzzy types with thick leaves, like Tillandsia xerographica, Tillandsia ionantha, and Tillandsia caput-medusae are usually the easiest for me.
Hi Anna! These are my few. They’re the easiest plants to care for- imo. I live in central Texas and mine are on my back, East facing patio. They get 1-4 hours of morning sun- then bright indirect light the rest of the day. I soak them in my dishwashing tub about every 10 days for around an hour. I use only filtered tap water- chemicals like Chlorine, Flouride and salts can hurt them. I air my tap water in the jugs in the photo for 24 hours minimum, and use it for all my plants. Every other day, I spay mine with water- it’s 100 degrees here now ! Every other feeding- I use an air plant food- I add it directly to the filtered water. Air plants live on wood and rocks, so you only need a piece of wood or a planter with rocks- set them on top, and enjoy them!. If you look at th photo of the white pot- there’s 2 on the left of same plant- those have been the hardest for me. ☹️ i don’t know their names off the top of my head but i can if you wanted to know. I hope this helps. πŸͺ΄πŸ’•
I have tried again after many failures in the past, and this time around, I think I got it. I've got mine in full sun, and mist them every other day, and soak them once a week. I rotate their position in the window throughout the day, and they've been thriving.

Best of luck! πŸ’™
@SillyPlantGirl @HonorableTule91 @Alucen Thank you all for the information!! I will definitely be trying all your suggestions next time I get one!! @HonorableTule91 I will definitely be trying an easier one next time! πŸ˜‰ I think I had one of the tillandsia varieties, not sure which one tho.
Also another question for you.... How do you tell when airplants are thirsty or over watered?
@luvmygreenhouse if yours is thirsty, the leaves will curl, fold like a taco shell, or wrinkle. If overwatered - the leaves get soft, mushy and turn yellow. (I overwater 2 of the same type and the bottom leaves turned black real quick….that overwatering caused them to rot, and they were my first and I had no clue what I did. ☹️)
@SillyPlantGirl Thank you for that information!
That's too bad they died!

When mine died, I was thinking, okay what did I do wrong here? I still haven't figured out what I did wrong πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜
