Hi! I don't know much about ferns except they like to stay moist which can be a perfect place for fungus gnats to thrive. I would get the yellow sticky traps to kill the adults, and some BTI drops to add to your water which will kill the larvae. I get these drops from Amazon and they work wonders! One bottle lasts a very long time because you just add 1-3 drops per gallon of water every time you water your plants.
The issue is you have gnats. Let it fully dry out for a few days before watering, and give it less water than you normally would (so it dries out quicker)… the eggs/larvae are near the top of the soil and they die out without consistent moisture, but they are prolific so it can take a few generations to fully kill them. I also like to spray the surface with Mighty Mint Plant Protection after each watering if fungus gnats have hitched a ride into my home, the little sticky traps can also be helpful in gauging how much of a dent you’re making in the population (seeing less and less). The adults (flies) will go around looking for other moist plant medium to lay eggs in, so you need to apply this to ALL your plants.
Generally it takes me about 2 weeks to fully be rid of them, but you should keep this up until you haven’t seen gnats for 2 weeks if you haven’t gotten rid of them before (probably 3-4 weeks).
