What color are autumn fern root’s supposed to be?

I’m repotting my autumn fern right now and I’m noticing the roots are really really dark brown almost black. But there isn’t any fowl odor or mushiness about them so I don’t believe it’s rot. I can’t seem to find any reference to what autumn fern roots should look. Any help would be greatly appreciated! #AutumnFern
5ft to light, indirect
6” pot with drainage

They might be a dark color just from soil sticking to them. When you gently squeeze them, do they feel firm? Rotten roots will easily fall apart when handled, so if they're firm and intact then they are most likely fine.
@Samnm draining plastic nursery pot and plain potting soil, I repotted it into a wider draining pot with a chunkier well draining soil mix
@stephonicle yes they felt firm and they were staying intact. They were behaving like normal plant roots, the only oddity was the color
@Nature_freak9 yeah I'm certain that's just from the soil clinging to them. You can rinse them off and then check the color to be sure. Healthy roots will be off white or tan, or slightly orange.
@stephonicle ahh alright. Thank you so much!!
