Help
Hi! I think my orchid needs repotted because I haven’t repotted it since I got it and now the roots are starting to grow outside the pot and google said that’s when I should repot. Should I repot her now or wait? And when I do repot her is miracle gro orchid potting mix good? All the reviews say it’s good and their orchids like it. Last thing I want to know is can I use a colander as a pot? Probably not but I just felt like I should ask just in case. Someone help me please because I’m new to flowers and idk what I’m doing. Also it came with a stick in it so should I leave it or take it out?
@WeirdWolfGirl a good time to repot is when the roots are crowded in the pot and starting to grow out the top of the pots, so looks like now is a good time. You will want to inspect the roots, cut away any roots that are not a beautiful green color. You will want a good size bark style potting medium, the miracle is a good choice. You can absolutely use a colander as a pot, orchids don't like thier roots to sit in water. They have orchid pots that are slotted pots. Keep the sticks, you can use them again to hold the flower stalks up if you want, or you can let it grow more like in nature!! That is up to you. Orchids are naturally in the rainforest so they like it on the humid side. I keep mine in my bathroom. I like to give mine a good soak about once a month for about 10 minutes.
I have included a picture on my orchid bark, a picture of the orchid pots that are available, and my orchid display!!
Hope this helps!! Enjoy they will rebloom when their needs are being met!!!

How long have you had this? It’s normal for orchids to grow aerial roots outside their pots - they only need to be repotted if they start becoming really rootbound inside their pots. Either way, I would probably recommend repotting it if you have had it for a while! I haven’t used miracle grow orchid mix in a while but I’m sure it’s fine to use, just check that there are no bugs or mold because I hear that can sometimes be a problem with that brand.
I wouldn’t recommend using a colander unless it’s plastic? Some people use mesh pots & a plastic colander seems like a similar idea & could technically work as long as it’s not much wider/bigger than the pot it’s already in.
The stick is just added to support the flowering spike so it’s really up to you if you feel like taking it out or not!
