My diffenbachia is dying

#Dieffenbachia Hello! My diffenbachia seems very close to dying. I’ve repotted it with vigoro potting mix, and a third of perlite. She seems in such bad shape, but her stem has some growth, so I know it’s possible! Any tips? I put her outside too during daylight time because I hear the sun is best for hurt plants like this one. I’m a complete beginner. I know it’s an indoor plant but the sun seems to be working for it as it is growing somewhat. Please help! Thank you so much!

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "bad shape" or why you believe she's close to dying? In their native habitat, they grow on jungle forest floors receiving only dappled sunlight through the tree canopy, so direct sun can cause them to burn. Indoor plants can be just as healthy as outdoor plantsβ€”it's all about making sure they get the right amount of light. Too much and they burn, too little and they can't photosynthesize or grow. If it wasn't getting enough light before, sticking it outside in direct sun won't help. And going straight from not enough light to too much direct light can burn even a sun-loving succulent if it isn't gradually acclimated. The perfect spot for a dieffenbachia is less than three feet from a south or west-facing window, or right in front of a north or east-facing window. You basically want it as close as possible without the sun's direct rays hitting the leaves.

Was overwatering part of the issue causing her decline? Lack of light can lead to overwatering issues, since light helps the soil dry out. Another thing that keeps soil damp is placing a plastic nursery pot inside another pot and not leaving a gap between the two pots to allow for proper airflow to the soil.
@stephonicle thank you so much for your help. My apologies, I thought it posted the photo of my plant along with it. The growth on the stem is not showing in this photo, but I know it’s there, and I’ll have to show later on when it’s not 1 am. Either way this is her right now, but I don’t have root rot and there’s some BABY growth so I have hopes! There is a gap in between the plastic nursery cup and the pot inside. I will give her a better spot to sit tho in the meanwhile; I didn’t know plants could burn! Lastly yes, overwatering was part of her decline. I’ve been very careful since I realized. My cat also bit it one time and it has like mini holes ( he is okay, that was the first time he ever did it and he’s been to the vet since and gotten labs.)
@stephonicle this is the new growth, it want there a week ago so she’s definitely growing somewhat!
