How to avoid overfeeding?

Just ordered one from the #GregPlantStore and I’m so excited! πŸ˜ƒ

I read the Greg app’s care info and it said that the plant only needs to eat ~1 fly per week. πŸ“š If a #VenusFlytrap eats more insects than it needs to, it could be harmful to the plant. πŸ₯€

What have your experiences been like, regarding your VFT’s rate of insect consumption? Have you overfed before? How do you prevent overfeeding? πŸ€”

Please share any tips or advice you have about insect consumption by a #VenusFlyTrap . Thanks in advance!! πŸ’š

@RalphiesGarden I don't feed mine it catches it's own food. Sometimes it doesn't catch anything and sometimes it'll have multiple traps closed in a week. The traps die off after they've been triggered so many times but catching too many flies isn't really a thing unless you're manually feeding each trap. Don't feed it if you have flies in your house and don't trigger the traps on purpose and it'll be fine 😊
@PleaseLeaf Ok, that makes sense! I never intended to manually feed the VFT but the care instructions kind of make it seem that way. Thank you for clarifying that for me 😊
These guys seem to be more susceptible to bad conditions then over feeding. We did occasionally feed a fly or rougue ant, but the humidity and wetness are a much bigger concern. My kids and i have killed many of these...lol
I have mine outside so they are capable of getting their own food. You don’t need to feed them but you can on occasion if they seem to be struggling. The bugs are just like fertilizer for them so they are like other plants that need sun and water.
