Is she savable!?

#Codiaeum Help! Thought my cat Zelda ate the leaves off but as I read up, they may have shed or been pulled. Idk. I don’t know what to do! I keep watering her as usual for now but I haven’t seen any changes in the last month or so. Any ideas appreciated. She was a beauty and I want to save her if I can. By the way, she is officially out of the cats reach. lol
1ft to light, indirect
4” pot with drainage

@BossCorncob43 is your kitty okay?? Crotons are toxic to cats, did she actually EAT the leaves or just grab, chew, and spit out? πŸ₯Ί
@DreamMachine it was gradual and the more I read about them, I think they were pulled off or shed. No one ever got sick so I don’t think they were actually digested. I’m just not sure if she’s dead or I if I can do anything for her.
@BossCorncob43 oh waitβ€¦πŸ™ƒ, was this a month ago that this happened? I skimmed over that part in my worry about the kitty.

I would probably lighten up on the water if you’ve been watering as usual. Without leaves to photosynthesize it won’t be able to go through that water very quickly if at all. Your croton currently doesn’t look too goodβ€¦πŸ˜¬ Has it been an actual month?
@DreamMachine yes, maybe more. 😬
Like @DreamMachine said, you definitely want to ease up on watering since it no longer has any leaves. Also, those glazed clay pots are notorious for holding onto moisture and keeping the soil damp far too long. If you're going to use them, put the plant in a standard nursery pot and then set that pot inside the glazed clay pot.
@BossCorncob43 forgot to ask...does that pot have drainage holes at the bottom?
@BossCorncob43 well…I hate throwing in the towel on any plant, but I would be very surprised if this one pulled through. I’m so sorry πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜’
@BossCorncob43 Crotons are drama queens. You move them an inch.. they lose their leaves, over water a little bit they lose their leaves, under water they'll lose their leaves.. look at them they'll lose their leaves 🀣 I gave up on these plants. As hard as I try they die for me. Obviously I've done something wrong. Good luck with your plant.
@BossCorncob43 scratch the surface of a stem if there's any green it's still alive.
@sunflowerlover1 @BossCorncob43 Trista, thank you for saying that!! 🫡🏼 🫢🏼I meant to mention checking the stems but I got distracted and forgot πŸ™ƒπŸ€ͺ Zooming in on the picture, that one in front does look like there’s some green still there!
@sunflowerlover1 Would that trick work for plants that have gone through an unexpected freeze?

My partner and I just moved at the end of December, and all of his plants were in the back of the moving truck... while we drove through a snowstorm in Wyoming we'd planned to miss by a day 😭
@BossCorncob43 I haven't experienced that personally here, where I live in Australia it's never really cold, I've never even seen snow so I'm not sure what to reply there. But you could also try to bend a stem if it's flexible there's hope, if it snaps or feels hollow it's gone 😞 I'm sure one of these techniques will give you an idea.
I know plants can go into shock from extreme environmental changes some plants go dormant trying to recover themselves or it could be gone :( I'm hoping not!
Best of luck πŸŒ»πŸ™‚
@DreamMachine it's always the way isn't it 🀣 the way our brains work πŸ˜… don't worry I am exactly the same most days 🌻
@BossCorncob43 my croton just shed a ton of leaves, but at the end of the stems there were green spots. I put her in a spot where she wouldn’t get cold or hot and gave her a big ole grow light just for her, an evaporative humidifier (so the mist doesn’t blow on her) and a portable heater in case the temp drops below 72 in the room she’s in and now she is coming back with new baby leaves.
Generally when my crotons (of the past) shed leaves I freaked and threw them out. This is the first one that appears to be bouncing back. I know I went overboard and I am lucky I have the space for her, but I figured I had the space, equipment and time to try it out, so she’s on a comeback.
She’s been the exception not the norm. Eventually the odds will be in your favor. (This is my 6th croton, and the only one that hasn’t straight up died.)
I hope things work out for you!!!
(If not, a cute Etsy shop has 3 inch, 4 inch and 6 inch crotons for reasonable prices 😍, FloridaPlantsGardens; I’ve never purchased a croton from them, but I might be soonπŸ˜‚.)
Best wishes!! You’ve got this!!
