What is direct sunlight? Does a grow light count? How doe...
I think itβs all pretty direct- I just am adding pictures to help.
Iβve heard #Pothos donβt like direct sunlight and Iβm wondering if this counts and if thatβs why there are brown spots on my #JadePothos or if it has to do with the air conditioning. It used to be set right in front of it, so I moved it. #PothosPack #GoldenPothos #MarbleQueenPothos #NeonPothos
Could any of these things hurt my other pothoses (Marble Queen, Neon, and Golden)?

Direct sunlight is when the sun's rays hit your plant's leaves. If you went outside and looked up to let the sun shine on your faceβthat's direct sunlight. Even the strongest grow lights aren't as intense as the actual sun, so as long as they're far enough away it's fine. Do you know the strength of your grow lights? AC tends to dry out the air, and if it's too close and the temperature is set too low, that could also affect your pothos since they prefer temps that stay above 65Β°F
Easy way to tell if it's direct or indirect: if the shadow is sharp, it's direct. If it's somewhat fuzzy, it's indirect. Alternatively, check to see if the plant can 'see' the sun. If ut can it's direct.
Now the indirect vs direct is much more complicated. Most houseplants can tolerate morning or evening direct, but afternoon is often too much. HOWEVER, when acclimated properly and with enough moisture, most plants, pothos included, can tolerate even full sun. I've seen wild pothos grow soo well with full sun, they look like an Aurea Monstera.
Now regarding the grow light, most of the time it would be considered indirect. BUT, if the plant is too close ie. it's getting burnt or drying out toi quickly, it might as well be direct at that point

You may want to check the lux... Pothos will get bleached if you give them too much lights. Previously I bleached my golden pothos by giving it more than 35k lux and 10 hours. I guess they need only about 10k to 25k lux, they can tolerate as low as 5k lux but the variegation may not be the best. As for how many hours is depending on how bright is your lights, but maximum of 12 hours is the best because too many hours of lights isn't good as well as they can't rest.
@Pgrasso this thread could probably help! πͺ΄
Iβm not an expert and fairly new to the plant world, so my advice is probably not 100% correct lol. I have a marble queen above an AC vent and she tends to dry out and get brown edges. I trim the brown off and make sure to monitor the soil closer than my other pothos. She does tend to want a little more water due to the AC vent. The good news is pothos are basically indestructible plants so as long as youβre monitoring them - theyβll be okay!
