Maiden Hair Ferns unlike most ferns enjoy direct sunlight in the morning or evening, it looks like youre fern is sending out tendrils to search for sunlight. Also maiden hair ferns need their soil to be constantly damp but not flooded. Iād move youre fern to a spot with a direct view of the sky. Hope this helps :3
@Loombea yes thank you!
@Loombea as far as sending out tendrils in search of more sunlight, that's not really how maidenhair ferns work. Based on OP's photo, it looks like some fronds have lost their leaflets, despite the rest of the plant looking healthy. Those aren't tendrils. It can be a sign of the soil staying dry too long, too low humidity, or just a normal part of its growth cycle. Maidenhair ferns will often start to shed like this when conditions are less than optimal. It will eventually start sending out new growth from the base with consistent watering. A good go-by for what "evenly, consistently damp" soil should feel like: what a dish sponge feels like after being wrung out š
@stephongreg so how often should I be watering?
@LikelyChaya33 it can vary depending on several factors, such as temp & humidity level in your space, how much light it gets, type of soil, type of pot, etc. Instead of watering it on any type of set schedule, always check the soil with a moisture meter, wooden chopstick, or your finger. It shouldn't feel soggy, but it also shouldn't be allowed to completely dry out. The dish sponge thing I mentioned in my earlier comment is a useful tool for determining what "evenly moist" soil should feel like š
