Is my jade plant ok?
My jade plant has white dots and the leaves are floppy
@Marissasauvé Hi and welcome to Greg! I'm sorry you're having trouble with your Jade. If the white wipes off easily, it's probably salt that the plant is excreting. Floppy leaves can happen with overwatering - an easy mistake to make with a Jade. If you're using tap water, there are chemicals that the plant must work to cope with and that can definitely get you the white spots.
If your Jade isn't getting enough sunlight, that can also cause drooping, but I'm betting it's too much water because it's coupled with the white spots. It wouldn't hurt to ensure it's getting plenty of light, or use a grow lamp out bulb. I'm a fan of the halo lights because I can grow any small to mid-sized plant wherever I want! Windowless rooms can be populated with sun-loving plants with the right lighting. But I digress...
If the soil is moist and the white spots wipe away, then I'd lay off the watering and when you do water, try using rainwater, distilled, reverse osmosis (RO) or tap water that's been allowed to sit for 24 hours. Letting the tap water sit allows the chlorine to evaporate, but depending on the quality of your tap water, you may want to go with one of the other options.
Let me know if the white isn't easy to wipe away because then we might have a different problem entirely!
Also, if you've been watering on Greg's schedule and overwatering is the problem, you can tell the app to Snooze. It'll learn!
