What happened to my healthy Moneytree?
My little money tree has always been healthy and strong and Iβm starting to notice these browning leaves. I havenβt moved its position. Does it need more sun? I currently have it in line with the window but on the opposite side of the room. #MoneyTree

Hi there! πͺ΄π
It could be a watering issue and/or a root issue. Probably the easiest way to find out is by pinching the stems at the base to see if they feel mushy. Hopefully, they donβt. You can also smell the soil. If it smells bad, itβs likely root rot. Then you can take the plant out of the pot and look at itβs root system. If there are any mushy roots, itβs got root rot. Youβll need to remove all the soil and thoroughly rinse the roots. Youβll cut off any mushy roots and then most people rinse them with hydrogen peroxide. Then you can re-pot in fresh soil and clean pot with drainage. Depending on how much root rot, you may need to go down a size in pot.
If none of the above apply, then Iβd say that maybe the plant is needing more humidity. Not sure how long youβve had your money tree (if this is the first winter youβve had it) and if it is winter where you live, but if so, it could be needing a humidifier or a pebble tray with water.
Hope these tips help!

@SunnyPlants I just noticed on the plant card that itβs in direct light. Itβs possible the leaves are getting sunburned. Money trees need indirect or filtered light. So many different things to check!
@SunnyPlants thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful! Iβve moved it from the direct light, so definitely going to check the root rot. Iβve never known how to do that before, so thank you for explaining. I got the plant last summer and it is winter here (in NJ) so that could definitely be it too. Great suggestions, really appreciate you taking the time! πͺ΄π
@GardenandBloom Iβm so glad this has been helpful! Iβve been learning so much here too. Itβs great that we can all help each other out! Hope to see your money tree doing better very soon! πͺ΄π
