Roots above soil?? Help!

Hello! This is Rhianna, the plant at the cafe I work at that I’m caring for. Are these roots above the soil? I’ve been suspecting the pot may be too small… but I can’t imagine she would try to literally crawl out of it. What is going on? What do I do? #BlushingPhilodendron #help #HelpNeeded #TipsPlease

Well, I think you’re right. She’s getting a bit top-heavy. I would suggest a pot at least double or three times that size. Take her out gently, fluff the roots and re- plant. If a bigger pot won’t work for the surface she is on, you’ll have to sub-divide her and put the remainder in another pot. Whichever you decide, make sure there’s about an inch of space between the base of the plant and the rim of the planter. Your roots needs space to spread. The reason it looks like she is crawling out, is because the roots are trying to push through the sides of the planter and not being able to it pushes back on itself, creating upward pressure resulting in root exposure. She is literally squishing herself to death.
@SacredRosegrape Thank you!
@Hollowmoss you might want to consider getting a pole for the plant to climb on too. Those look like aerial roots. They are common 😊
Definitely need a bigger pot, it’s hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like you have a 6 inch pot currently I would say at least 10 to 12 inch mouth pot
