Hi, Alexandra. (: You might want to ask your mom to elaborate about what she knows, but what I know is that crotons are toxic to cats and dogs if they are injested.

If an animal eats the plant, there is white sap inside that can make them sick. That's usually what "toxic" means in the houseplant world. SOMETIMES the sap can be toxic to humans, like some rubber plants have latex in the sap and can irritate the skin if the sap gets on a person's skin.

They are not too dangerous to grow inside.

I'm glad you found Greg! Your croton looks good!
Only if you have pets or small children who might be inclined to put the leaves in their mouths
@SteadyWaiuatua when a plant is listed as toxic, it typically means it's toxic if ingested or that the plant's sap is a skin irritant, the latter of which can be avoided by wearing gloves.
Thank you! I’m glad to hear that. I really like Greg, it’s so helpful and a sweet community.
No. It’s not dangerous to grow indoors but it is the sap and ingesting the leaves that can be toxic to humans. Here are some searches I found online. I think if you place it somewhere where pets and children can’t get to it you will be fine.
@Shells_Garden thank you! ❀️
