What's going on with my cactus?

I have noticed these light spots and this misshapen form at the tip of my cactus for quite some time now but it won't go away. Instead it keeps growing like this. What is going on? #BlueColumnarCactus
8ft to light, indirect
3” pot without drainage
Last watered 3 weeks ago

Hi @LadyCeline. Your cactus has been damaged in some way, either with sunburn, pests, rapid growth after too much water, or something. It won't go away, as it has formed a scab to protect itself. The scab itself is not harmful.

The new growth is spiny as it now stretches for the light. (And doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the scab). They need lots of lots of light. But if it is not used to the sun you need to let it get used to more light gradually, or it will burn.
How often do you water? Does it have drainage? Is it really 8ft from light?
@slayonium not true. Young growth might be very senitive if it isn't used to the light. Also there are big differences on old/new windows and growlights, and time of year/hight of the sun. So I would say take your precautions either way. I burned one of my young cactuses through my window.
@MamaLinne

Around every 25 days. It doesn't have drainage but because of that I don't give it too much water. And yes it's around 8ft from the window but I have a grow light for a few weeks now.

Yes I actually had a pest some weeks ago which I managed to cure but that explains a lot. Then I'm glad that it looks like I don't have to worry about it. Thanks for your help.
@LadyCeline oh that makes sense then 😊 Good thing you were able to take care of itπŸ˜‰
@LadyCeline I think that’s the cool thing about cacti- they’re such slow growers that they show all their old scars- kind of like us! Their bodies tell a story. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’š
