@Forbes57 Hi Patti, it might be the soil you have it in. They are epiphytes so they grow best in orchid bark and like to dry out in between waterings. Since orchid bark is hard to check moisture you'll have to rely on the weight of the pot after you water to determine when it's ready for a drink. Changing its substrate should help immensely.
@princesspitstop Thank you! I’ll give it a shot. ❀️
@Forbes57 Oh and then when it gets warmer place it out outside. They love the heat but not direct sunlight. Just warmth and bright indirect light. Last summer mine gave me crazy growth! I'll attach a picture of the soil I have mine in so you can get an idea of what to get.
@princesspitstop I know they’re not aroids but would aroid soil be good for them? I also have orchid bark and can mix the two.
YES that will work! Like a 2:1 ratio orchid bark to Aroid mix
@Forbes57 The Aroid mix will help retain some moisture and you won't be watering so much. I forgot I added Succulent soil into the pot after I put it in the orchid bark to fill the negative spaces. πŸ‘πŸ˜
I’m excited. I’m on a mission today. I’m also trying to save my spider plants. I was advised to put them in water versus soil. Thoughts? πŸ˜…
@princesspitstop Great. I have some of that too. πŸ₯°
@Forbes57 To propagate them or just having them growing.
@Forbes57 I've had the best luck propagating spider pups in water then transferring them to succulent soil mix with some perlite to live in permanently. Here's one of my guys. Everyone is inside because of Snowpocalypse lol but I usually have them hanging outside in a North facing direction. Again no direct sunlight. The pups are under a grow light.
OMG… gorgeous. My 2 plants have shrunk to the size of your pups. Maybe I’ll try repotting them together using your mix. They started in water but haven’t thrived since I potted them. Might be the soil. I’m not good with moving my plants in and out. Only ones outside are my succulents (because I ran out of space inside πŸ₯Ή) I have opposite weather in AZ. Too hot sometimes and even a little bit of direct sun in the summer can be devastating. Just easier to keep them inside. πŸ€—
