The ants themselves won’t cause any issues, just keep an eye out for secondary pests like aphids&mealybugs. The ants can be attracted to honeydew left behind by more harmful pests.
Disagree that they’re harmless, they could easily bring in some aphids and start farming them.
Get Terro liquid ant traps, they have a borax sugar water mix in them that the ants will eat, take back to their colony, and then the ants and the colony die. They helped me get rid of a horror-movie-level Argentine ant problem when I was living in California (I’m talking waking up to 10k+ ants in a black swarm covering the entire floor of my immaculate kitchen) when nothing else worked. The first wave of ants dies within 24-72 hours, but you should keep them out for a few weeks to a month because there will be another wave of hatchlings every 10-14 days until they die off. IIR they’re like 6 to a box for $10-20, and you will probably be fine with 1 trap for a small infestation, then you just squirrel away the others for a future year.
