Keeps dying
I have tried replanting 3 cilantro plants that I brought from a good nursery, all three have died within a week. I have them in a vertical planter, facing south, water every 5 days. What am I doing wrong!? My basil, mint, parsley, rosemary and thyme are doing great with the same care.
Hey Aleks, Cilantro can die for many reasons including inadequate watering, the wrong type of soil, poor light, not enough nutrients in the soil or too much fertilizer, excessive temperatures, wrong soil pH, pests, diseases.
Hereβs some care tips to maybe help you figure out whatβs going wrong.
Soil: well draining with a PH of 6-6.8 , make sure the soil is rich in organic matter. You can use manure, worm castings, compost etc to increase organic matter in your soil.
Light: it needs full sun, it may sometimes tolerate slight shade but itβs recommended to give it a good 4-6 hours of sunlight everyday. Unless itβs intense afternoon sun.
Watering: keep soil moist but not soaked. Good drainage is essential as cilantro has deep roots.
Temperature: ideally between 60-85 F
Fertiliser: a good balanced liquid or slow release fertiliser works great. Feed once a month.
Pruning: itβs best to prune about an inch from the top to get a bushier and fuller plant.
Hope these Care tips help you figure what may be going wrong. Happy growing!

I don't know what it is about cilantro but it seems to be much harder than the other herbs to grow on from a potted plant from the supermarket or from a nursery. I've only had success with them growing from seed into the area they will be staying. I noticed that when I bought one online from a supermarket, it advised that unlike the other potted herbs, they usually don't survive beyond a few days. So it might be nothing you are doing wrong at all! ππΏ
