Why does it look so red? :(

Few months ago my neighbor gave me his alo, which was in very bad condition 🥀 I had to re-pot it and cut many of the lower “leaves” as they were completely dry. After all this, it started lookin greener but now it’s reddish again… can anyone give me some advice? I tried watering more often but I haven’t seen any change.
