Fellow philodendron brandi growers, how do you achieve su...

I’ve had my philodendron brandtianum for about 4 years now, and I’ve always struggled with getting it to stay happy and produce larger, healthy looking leaves.

Greg lists this plant as easy to grow, but from my experience and from what I’ve read online, it truly isn’t. It definitely does not grow anywhere near as nicely as my other philodendrons.

Typically, the leaves are very small and also bent and crooked.

It seems to need very high humidity, which can be a challenge in my northern climate, especially in the winter. The most success I’ve had has been with keeping it in a cloche, but then it can’t fit in there once it reaches a larger size.

I do really love this plant and wish I could figure out how to make it happy. Any insights would be very much appreciated. ❀️πŸͺ΄ #Philodendron #advice #help

@Eelhsa If you can keep it surrounded by wet pebble trays (I know some sources say zero effect, but it has to evaporate, so it must raise the area around the plant by 1% or 2%) it might help. Also, looking at the stem, this one is screaming for a moss pole. Not a trellis, not a coir pole...a real moss pole. Re-pot it with a moss pole, and keep the moss pole well watered. I am betting it will go crazy.

@UltraKoreanfir, thank you! I will have to try to find or make a moss pole. Unfortunately we don’t have good resources for plants in my area.
@Eelhsa There are some pretty decent "pre-made" options online where it's a plastic "skeleton" that you just stuff with sphagnum moss. If you can get Amazon delivered in Dryden, you may be able to find them. Like this:

@Eelhsa But definitely not something like the one pictured....that is just coir. It's impossible to get wet or keep wet, so it doesn't provide the benefits of a moss pole allowing the plant to root.
@UltraKoreanfir, okay! Thank you. πŸ™‚
