When should we prune?

#MoneyTree I’m looking and I see new large sprouted leaves, but some tightly wound leads in the middle. Should I cut these guys?

My Money Tree was doing the exact same thing! After a lot of research, I found that this is good! This is the prime growth season for Money Trees, so expect more of this. Growth also brings some leaf shedding so don’t freak out when that happens. It’s reaching out in growth. It needs more sun if possible. Money Trees are very sensitive to stress. If you move it around too much it’ll get stressed out and turn yellow and shed leaves. Put it in a direct sun area and leave it alone for a month, only move it to water it. Money Trees are supposed to be put in the SE areas of your home, especially in rooms related to finances. This brings the most luck. I don’t have a SE area of my home so mine is in the SW, and growing steadily. As for watering, don’t let it dry out 100%, that stunts growth, and is causing the curling of your lower leaves. Yellowing leaves means over watering, curling means under watering. Water it when the soil gets to about 50-75% dry (1-2 weeks). When you water it, put it in the sink or shower and allow water to sprinkle over the soil for about 5-10 mins until the nitrogen bubbles stop coming up in the soil. Then let it train for 15 mins in the sink and put it back. Don’t try to upsize its pot until the β€œtrunk” has reached the new leaf stems and the leaves are all the same height. You can add a plait or two to the brain at this time. Only move up 1-2 sizes in pot size at a time. Don’t prune it, it’ll shed on its own. This plant is meant to be fairly easy, water it and leave it alone in the sun. Your Money Tree looks good, just give it a good watering (soil looks very dry), some sun and time to adjust to the new changes. Good luck!
Cutting the leaves may stunt the plant. The leaves curl like that when it’s being over watered. Money trees only need to be watered every 1-2 weeks letting it dry out in between. I hope this helps, I have one too πŸ™‚
@Here_to_Gander thank you! I was overwatering because the leaves were yellowing but now I only water when soil is completely dry. That’s when I saw the larger leaves start to grow. But I can cut back even more on watering so it stops curling. The curled leaves are dry, some white some brown so, I’ll just let it sort itself out.
Larger growth typically indicates a healthy in - balance money tree, so you’re good!
@KsTreehouse wow so much good information here, thank you! I was alittle overzealous when I first got it so it was all yellow. But now that I let it dry out it got that beautiful green color. It’s interesting about not letting it get completely dry because every article that I’ve read say to only water once dry. BUT what you’re saying makes sense. I’ll move it over, I have indirect sunlight on my patio and zero sunlight in my home, which is why it’s outside. I’ll try to find a better spot for it so it can get the most sunlight. I’m just stoked it’s doing this well! If only I could get my snake plant to come back like this one.
Awesome! So glad it’s doing better! Yea the articles go back and forth but I’ve had it for about 4 years and it does a lot better if I don’t let it dry 100%. If you can’t get better sunlight, just water less. I always touch the soil before watering any plant. Filtered or indirect light is fine and it’ll start getting sunnier so that’ll help if it stays outside. Read up on pests for Money Trees, and make sure to account for that. I’ve never had mine outside so I don’t know about that. Hah! I had a snake plant for 2 years then one day it just started dying and I tried everything to save it but couldn’t so I’ve given up on that type of plant personally. They are beautiful though!
@KsTreehouse I had a snake plant for two weeks and then it died 🀣😭 but Ive got it in water now instead of soil and I’m seeing new green roots so, hopefully I can resurrect it. And so far no bugs on my money tree but I found tiny bugs on my Monstera which I don’t know how to get rid of.
