Hi Lorraine! You actually could do either! From what I can barely see in the picture it appears to have a ton of roots so it could go directly into soil. It might go through a scary transition phase but it should come out of it just fine. Or you could make the transition a little easier by switching to semi-hydro first, i.e. LECA or PON. But ultimately it's completely up to you!

Prince is in water only and he has healthy roots. I am going to put both of my new plants in pots and watch them carefully so that they thrive.
