I want more plants

#PlantsMakePeopleHappy Right now the only plant I have is the peace lily that my coworkers sent me 4 years ago when my dad passed away. I really want more plants but I'm not sure what kind I should get. My house faces West and I have a big picture window in my living room, so that room gets the most sun all day. My kitchen window faces east and gets early morning sun. Any particular suggestions? TIA
Well, question is: do you prefer flowers or foliage?

My personal opinion is that foliage is absolutely the best. Flowers are pretty and all, but they’re temporary (and I’m not a huge fan of them). As opposed to foliage, you get to see them grow and get their variated designs (if you have a plant that does that).

My type of foliage plants are huge, green, waxy plants! Monsteras, Elephant Ear (Calocasia), Ficus (or any Rubber Tree 😍), Philodendron, etc. I can keep going. I love them all.

If you’re also looking to start small and easy, you can also dive into succulents and cactuses! I’m obsessed with succulents, as they’re easy to take care of, very pretty to watch grow, and they come in tons of sizes, colors, designs, etc.

Take a look at my oasis to see my current indoor plants! I have many more that I’m too lazy to add, but maybe you can find one that you’ll like! πŸ’•πŸͺ΄πŸŒ΅
Here’s some of my favorite succs

They’re basic, but you can look them up and branch out from there! They’re completely different from eachother, so giving you options on what types they come in!

Ooohh! What a fun question; you've got great light! When the sun is up, I'll walk around and show you some of my favorites.

You'll find out that there are certain plants you like and certain plants you'll say "Never again!" (:

Plants all seem to have their own personalities and care regimen.
I think everyone here could give you a different response because our "favorite" plants can change 100x. I have two west-facing picture windows as well and hang a ton of plants from curtain rods in each (toddlers and such...).

That means some of the best for me are ones that trail/Vine. Spider, pothos, etc. (both are also impossible to kill, in my experience). But, they also don't need all that light.

That said, my current favorites are my rubber trees and my arrowhead plants, and neither want to be in the bright picture window.

Two of my other favorites are my snake plants, as they are also fairly easy to care for and can take a range of light and my Hoya as they also seem to be able to survive about anything and flower constantly.

I'm starting to shift toward plants with a lot of variegation and color because I have several rooms in my home with darker paint so I feel they stick out more.
@DeftCactus I highly recommend these plants for low light. Snakes plants, pothos, ZZ’s , I have two beautiful Monsteras. I do have some succulents that I have sitting in window sills. They make a kitchen look lovely. Also when making your selection on pots make sure they have drainage.

Here is a link for low light plants.

@DeftCactus everyone has given you some great advice. We all have different plants that we love. I'd suggest just looking at different oasis on here and research their care. Find plants that attract you and build your plant collection, with plants suited to your environment, lighting needs etc. Happy plant shopping. If you need help we're here for you. πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ’š
As everyone above has said, with that much wi dow and light you have many options and could more or less grow anything you choose.

I would think about your daily and weekly routines and decide how much time you want to devote to plant maintenance. Obviously some plants need more care (watering primarily) than others, so if you think you would enjoy interacting with them I this regard then choose plants that need more water, that grow more quickly, change shape as the mature, etc. However, if you don't have time for a lot of caregiving then you'll want to choose things like succulents, snake plants, and others that don't need as much water, don't grow as quickly to need repotting or pruning, etc.

I recommend deciding how much time you have and what relationship you want with your plants so that those parameters can guide your plant search.

Everyone here has lovely oases that you can look through for inspiration. Click on the plant and it will give you some details to help you decide if it fits your needs.

I also recognize visiting a local nursery or greenhouse. The staffs in these places are usually plant lovers themselves and are typically excited to help new plant parents choose their new babies. You can look at your options in person, choose the tight sizes, get the right food, pots, soil, etc. and learn about what your new friends need to stay happy.

Take your time, be honest with yourself about what you want and what you have time for, and then take your time choosing your new plants. Creating a carefully curated collection will be well worth it in the end, and ensure that both you and the plants are very happy in the end. Welcome to the club!
@DeftCactus here are my Monsteras. They love bright indirect sunlight.
I definitely prefer foliage over flowers. I love all the different shades of green and the different patterns and designs. I do love succulents but I think for my first addition I want a big leafy beauty like the Monsteras. Thank you all for your answers and suggestions and I am loving looking at everyone's oasis!
