Does this fella stand a chance?

I believe it’s a Norway maple. It was doing fine last summer, but I guess the frost wedging got to it. I’ve moved the rope to the bottom so it doesn’t split further, and I’m probably gonna tie some more rope around the top. Basically just want to know if it’s worth the effort or if I’m tying rope to a dead tree. The leaves are still green, so it didn’t take in any of the chlorophyll before it “died” probably because of the split. You can’t see in the photo, but there’s branches growing out. The people who cut it no longer live nearby and nobody uses this clearing, hence why I want to see if it can still grow.
In my experiences of crazy weather here in the Crystal coast of North Carolina, where it can get to 110° the wind will blow 130 miles an hour. We can get 4 foot of rain in three days it can survive or end up floating as driftwood. lol
Seriously, though I have seen some absolutely crazy looking dead trees that are not dead and come back to life after a little bit of water
I’ll go put the other rope on and check on it next spring I guess!
Now that being said with absolutely nothing to start photosynthesis, I might have an idea for you.
Cut a branch off a nearby tree and stick it down in the wedge like you’re grafting onto it and maybe that will be enough photosynthesis to keep the tree alive until it can start to grow again.
Kind of into Maples now and they’re gonna be a part of my life for quite some time so I’m cheering you on Honestly. I have 2 Bloodgoods I got from Walmart recently for 19.99 each. The cheapest I’ve ever seen a cutting was $45. so I bought two of them. They are grafted onto something else. They haven’t a grow at all so I’m disappointed honestly but I’m still hopeful for you
@OhGollyItsJolly there was a crababble tree I would go by often for years, never had any leaves. Always figured it was dead. Randomly started growing again recently. Basically, trees are really weird with growing, and your grafted fellows might just be taking their sweet time
Is there anything growing out of the trunk whatsoever? Lil branches ? You know you could actually even try like an epoxy or an oil based paint to seal up the wound Perhaps. Maybe try some fish fertilizer liquid feed I don’t have much to say about the company, but I can’t deny it will make dead trees all of a sudden become vigorous growers & start Growin shoots
@OhGollyItsJolly it’s got branches, I’d assume it was a dead stump otherwise. I think I’m gonna leave it alone now and see if it’ll come back next spring
@CarefreeRedpine speaking of crab apples most people don’t know that if you buy a grafted apple tree 90% or more of them are grafted onto crab apples root stocks because they are extremely hardy, disease resistant, & bountiful fruiters. 🤙🏽
@OhGollyItsJolly I guess that explains why it came back to life!
