My guess is that the pot has no drainage holes so all the excess water lead to the root rot and consequently to the leaves' demise.
@OfficialOkra waffle plants like their soil to be consistently moist. I have to water my waffles every other day. They also prefer to be in a porous or terracotta pot with drainage. Mine have slumped over and shriveled if they are not watered every other day. I killed my first one so I learned through trial and error. Always have drainage holes in your pot for any plant. If the water can drain out, the roots sit in soggy soil which causes the roots to rot. Waffle plants also do not like direct sun so keep it in a bright spot but not directly in sunlight. I use grow lights for my plants. Here are mine.
